Crystal Palace boss Frank de Boer declared his interest in signing Red Bull Leipzig winger Oliver Burke in today’s pre-match press conference.
With just under two weeks of the transfer window left open, the Dutchman confirmed the rumours emerging from Germany that he was keen to negotiate a deal for the highly promising Scottish prospect. The 20 year-old would be making a swift return to England after just a year since joining the newly-qualified Champions League outfit for €15 million from Nottingham Forest.
Ahead of the weekend trip to Liverpool, de Boer told the gathering media: “Burke is a very promising, young Scottish player. It’s always interesting to look at, but we are focusing on other players, too.”
After the shocking 0-3 home defeat to Huddersfield Town on the opening day last weekend, de Boer is well aware of the need for strong reinforcements.
German media outlet Bild followed up original claims from Kicker that Palace were in talks with RB Leipzig over a deal. Despite the German club’s sporting director playing down thoughts of Burke’s potential exit earlier in the summer, it looks like a deal could be completed by the Eagles by the end of the window.
Let’s face it, why else would Frank mention it if there wasn’t a chance it could happen? Here’s hoping the rumoured £15-18 million outlay won’t hamper our bigger, more pressing moves in the market.
